NewsTriangle makes a difference in people's lives. Ann’s story is one of the many examples of how Triangle services have made a difference in our tenant’s lives. Ann lives in one of our smaller homes within the Ballymoney area. When she came to Triangle she was very shy with little or no confidence. Initially she found it hard to adjust not only to a new home but a new area and living with people who were not her immediate family. Staff discovered Ann enjoyed knitting and encouraged her to continue this hobby, helping her improve casting on stitches. Staff brought in books on knitting garments and novelty items and encouraged Ann to knit a cushion cover. With her first cover completed Ann learnt how to decorate cushions with colourful buttons or ribbons and started to take orders from staff members and friends. Ann decided to forward any proceeds to charity. With her confidence boosted Ann knitted more items and began to sell them at local car boot sales. Ann enjoyed being part of her local community and raising money for charity; a big step for someone who is naturally a shy person. Ann also became more involved in Triangle activities; helping to make cakes and buns for a coffee morning held at the project to raise monies for Breast cancer. The coffee morning was open to friends, family and the general public. Ann acted as host showing people to the tea room, chatting and befriending people from her community. Recently Ann has become involved in the Shoe Box appeal knitting scarves and with staff help has completed 6 boxes to date. To aid her in the appeal she formed her own Knitting group who meet weekly. Ann’s hard work has raised £260 for charity. Ann is currently knitting squares for a blanket 30 stitches by 30 rows if anyone would like to help her achieve this new venture please contact Triangle Housing Association. |
