Jessica Carson's inspiring journey into social care is featured in a story by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC). At just 17, Jessica began working part-time at Triangle Housing Association's supported living facility in Ballymena while studying for a BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. Now 19, she's a full-time Support Assistant, helping adults with learning and physical disabilities.
Her passion for care was shaped early on by her family and personal experiences. Although she was accepted to study nursing at Ulster University, she chose to defer and continue working at Triangle, where she found deep fulfilment in her role. Jessica supports residents with a wide range of needs, including non-verbal communication and neurological conditions, and has even learned Makaton to better connect with them.
She says, "if you thibnk it's something you'll enjoy and you're ready for the challenges, go for it. It's not always easy, but it;s so worth it".
You can read her full story on the NISCC website.
