Darren's Progression to Employment!

Darren's Progression to Employment

Darren’s progression towards employment started in 2007 with Triangle’s Transition Service whilst attending Hillcroft School, where he had a number of work experience placements with the support of Irene Hamilton. He commenced training with Alternative Angles Newtownabbey in June 2008 after leaving school at the same time as studying cookery at the Northern Regional College. In September 2009, Darren was assessed by staff members Laura Euler (Social Enterprise Worker) and Kellie Ritchie (Northern Health and Social Trust) as having reached his optimum training potential and was recommended for Supported Employment. In October 2009, Darren was successful in securing a placement, supported by Linda Linthwaite SEO, with Lavender Cupcakes of Greenisland. Lavender Cupcakes are an exclusive supplier quality hand crafted quality cupcakes to a number of reputable coffee houses, delicatessens and corporate events in the Belfast area.

Darren’s role within Lavender Cupcakes is part of a team producing individual cake decorations and  packaging products ready for delivery around the Belfast area. Alison Cane, owner and founder of Lavender Cupcakes praised Darren’s enthusiasm and recently said;

Darren is just wonderful, he has a passion and spark for what he does. He is so inspiring, he comes up with new innovative ideas each day, some of which we are looking to put into practice. I have to thank the Triangle staff team for their excellent  professional support and friendly service. Linda and Kimberley have been a credit to the organisation in their dedication to both myself and Darren”.

Upon hearing of Darren’s placement his father Mr Terry Murphy said;

“It’s just amazing that Darren has started his dream job, it’s something he has always wanted to do , we never thought it would be possible and only a mile away from our home too!! The support we have received from the staff in Transition, Alternative Angles and Supported Employment has been excellent, we can’t speak highly enough of them. Darren has always said he was going to work in the food industry and I suppose we just thought “it’s nice to dream son” but never thought it would become a reality. We were so pleased when he got his placement we went out and bought him his set of Chef’s whites, which he is so proud of and shows to everyone. I would recommend Triangle’s Progression to Employment Service to anyone who is looking real meaningful work for their child with 1st class support”.
